Kashmir Honeymoon Itinerary: 6 Nights Day by Day

By the Kashmir Holiday Packages Online team · 13 October 2026 · 8 min read

A Kashmir honeymoon should feel unhurried. The best ones balance a little sightseeing with long, lazy stretches of doing nothing in beautiful places: breakfast on a houseboat deck, an afternoon by a mountain river, an evening watching snow fall from a warm room. Six nights is the sweet spot, long enough to see Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam without ever feeling rushed.

Here is a day-by-day 6-night honeymoon itinerary designed for couples, with romantic touches at every stop, seasonal variations, a guide to stays, and a checklist to make it special.

Day 1: Arrive and float

Land in Srinagar and transfer to your houseboat. Ask for a flower-decorated room and a welcome cake. Spend the afternoon resting on the deck with kahwa.

Before sunset, step into a private shikara for a two-hour ride. Ask the boatman to take you away from the busy ghats, past Char Chinar and the lotus beds, and to pause on quiet water as the sky changes colour. Back on board, enjoy a candle-lit dinner.

Day 2: Floating market, gardens and a sunset view

Dawn: wrap up in a shawl and visit the floating vegetable market by shikara. It’s magical in the soft early light, and you’ll be back for breakfast before most visitors wake up.

Morning: stroll through Shalimar Bagh, laid out by Emperor Jahangir for Empress Nur Jahan, and Nishat Bagh with its twelve terraces. Book a photographer for a short couple shoot in traditional Kashmiri dress, if you like.

Afternoon: rest, or browse Polo View for a Pashmina shawl or papier-mâché keepsake.

Sunset: head to Pari Mahal, the ruined palace terraces above Chashme Shahi, for the best sunset view over Dal Lake. End the day with a Wazwan dinner for two.

Day 3: Up to Gulmarg

Drive about two hours to Gulmarg. After checking in, ride the Gondola to Kongdori and, if open, to Apharwat, close to 4,000 metres. In winter, the world below is white; in summer, green meadows roll away towards the mountains.

Return for an evening by the fire or heater with hot chocolate. Ask for a room with a view of the slopes.

Day 4: A slow day in Gulmarg

This is your unplanned day. In winter, try sledging or a beginner ski lesson together, build a snowman, or simply walk through the snowy forest. In summer, ride ponies to Strawberry Valley, walk to Khilanmarg for views, or picnic on the meadow. Visit St. Mary’s Church at golden hour for photos.

Day 5: To Pahalgam

Drive four to five hours via Srinagar and the saffron fields of Pampore. Stop for saffron kahwa and to see the ancient temples at Avantipora. Arrive at your riverside cottage in Pahalgam and listen to the Lidder from your balcony. Ask for a candle-light dinner on the lawn by the river.

Day 6: Valleys and picnics

Hire a local taxi to Betaab Valley and Aru Valley. Ask your hotel to pack a picnic of fresh bread, fruit and kahwa, and find a quiet spot by the stream. In the afternoon, take a gentle walk through the pine forest along the river, or try rafting on the Lidder in summer.

Day 7: Departure

Enjoy a slow breakfast by the river, then drive about three hours to Srinagar airport with memories (and photos) to last a lifetime.

Seasonal variations

Spring (March to May)

Add a visit to the Tulip Garden on Day 2 in April. Gulmarg may still have snow in March and April; by May the meadows are green.

Summer (June to August)

Consider swapping one Gulmarg night for Sonamarg to see Thajiwas Glacier. Book early for June.

Autumn (September to November)

Golden chinars in Srinagar and a crisp, clear Pahalgam make autumn perfect. Visit the Pampore saffron fields at dawn in late October and early November.

Winter (December to February)

Stay two nights in Gulmarg for snow and consider skipping Pahalgam if roads are snowy, adding a second houseboat night on Nigeen Lake instead. Choose well-heated rooms.

Choosing your stays

  • Houseboat: a premium or deluxe houseboat with a private deck. Nigeen Lake for privacy, Dal Lake for the classic view.
  • Gulmarg: a hotel with good heating and slope views; book early in winter and spring.
  • Pahalgam: a riverside cottage or a room with a balcony over the Lidder.

Tell every property you are on your honeymoon; many add small surprises.

Romantic add-ons

  • Flower-bed decoration and a honeymoon cake.
  • Candle-light dinner on the houseboat or by the river.
  • Private sunset shikara with kahwa.
  • Couple photoshoot in traditional dress.
  • A heritage walk through the old city.
  • An extra houseboat night on Nigeen Lake.

Budget guide

A 6-night honeymoon with 4 star hotels and a deluxe houseboat, a private cab, breakfast and dinner, and honeymoon extras typically starts around ₹25,000 per person on twin sharing, excluding flights. A full luxury version with 5 star stays and premium houseboats, like our 7-night Luxury Kashmir Honeymoon, costs considerably more.

Honeymoon checklist

  • Photo ID for both of you (and marriage certificate copy, useful for some hotels).
  • Gondola tickets booked online.
  • Warm shawl and layers for evenings.
  • Postpaid SIM card.
  • Comfortable shoes for gardens and valleys.
  • A camera and spare batteries.

Making each day feel special

The difference between a nice trip and a perfect honeymoon is usually in small details. Here are ideas couples tell us they loved:

  • A morning off: pick one morning with no plans at all. Breakfast in bed, a slow walk, nothing else.
  • Matching pherans: buy two traditional woollen cloaks in Srinagar; they’re warm and make lovely photos.
  • A surprise: arrange a cake, flowers or a small gift for your partner with your houseboat or hotel.
  • A shared first: sledging, a ski lesson, a pony ride or rafting, something you’ll both try for the first time.
  • A letter to open later: write each other a note on the houseboat and open it on your first anniversary.
  • A photo walk: spend an hour in Nishat Bagh or Betaab Valley taking pictures of each other.

Adapting the plan

If you have only 4 nights

Spend two nights in Srinagar (one on a houseboat), one in Gulmarg and one in Pahalgam. It’s a little faster but still relaxed. Our Kashmir Honeymoon with Gondola & Shikara follows this plan.

If you have 8 nights

Add a night in Sonamarg in summer, or a second houseboat night on Nigeen Lake, and an extra night in Pahalgam. You could also include a day in Doodhpathri or Yusmarg for total peace.

If you want luxury

Upgrade to a premium houseboat and 5 star hotels, add a private photoshoot and a private Wazwan dinner. Our 7-night Luxury Kashmir Honeymoon is designed for this.

What couples often forget

  • Gondola tickets: book online in advance, especially for Phase 2.
  • Warm clothes: evenings are cool even in summer; very cold in winter.
  • Comfortable shoes: gardens, valleys and the old city involve walking.
  • Postpaid SIM: prepaid SIMs from outside J&K won’t work.
  • Buffer time: don’t book a tight connecting flight after your Kashmir flight home.

A day-by-day packing guide for couples

  • Houseboat nights: a warm shawl, slippers and a small overnight bag.
  • Garden and old-city days: comfortable shoes and modest clothing with a scarf.
  • Gulmarg: a warm jacket, gloves and waterproof shoes; snow boots in winter.
  • Pahalgam: layers for cool evenings by the river, and walking shoes for the valleys.
  • Candle-light dinner: one dressier outfit for each of you.

Keeping it stress-free

Honeymoons should be relaxing, so let the logistics be someone else’s job. With a single trusted operator, you get one driver for the whole trip, hotels booked and confirmed in advance, and someone to call if anything changes. Share your preferences early, such as a quiet room, a vegetarian diet or a surprise for your partner, so they can be arranged before you arrive. Then switch off and enjoy each other’s company.

After the honeymoon

Many couples return to Kashmir for anniversaries, often in a different season to see the valley in a new light. If you came in spring, try autumn for golden chinars, or winter for snow. Keep the photos, the pheran and a packet of kahwa as reminders, and you’ll find yourselves planning your next trip before long.

Frequently asked questions

Is 6 nights enough for a Kashmir honeymoon?

Yes. It covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam at a relaxed pace, with time for unplanned moments.

Should we stay on a houseboat for more than one night?

Many couples enjoy two houseboat nights, one on Dal and one on Nigeen. One night is enough to enjoy the experience.

Which is the most romantic place in Kashmir?

Many couples say a houseboat on Nigeen Lake, Pahalgam’s riverside, or Gulmarg under snow.

Can we add Sonamarg?

Yes, from May to October, either as a day trip from Srinagar or by swapping a Gulmarg night.

Can you arrange a candle-light dinner on the houseboat?

Yes. It’s one of our most popular honeymoon extras, and it’s included in our honeymoon packages.

Is it OK to show affection in public?

Kashmir is conservative, so keep public affection modest. Save the romance for your houseboat and hotel.
